Gaza – Yesterday, Monday, Palestinians recovered dozens of dead bodies dumped in the streets following the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the city of Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip.
Anadolu correspondent reported, citing medical sources and eyewitnesses, that a number of bodies of Palestinians killed by the Israeli army were recovered and transferred from the city of Khan Yunis to hospitals in the cities of Rafah (south) and Deir al-Balah (central).
A medical source told Anadolu Agency that ambulance crews “transported 56 martyrs who were recovered following the Israeli army withdrew from various areas in the city of Khan Yunis.”
In this context, eyewitnesses reported that following the withdrawal of the Israeli army, the bodies of Palestinians were found on the main roads, alleys and under the rubble of destroyed homes, many of which were decomposed or showed traces of being mauled by dogs and cats or being run over by the tracks of Israeli tanks.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health did not issue statistics on the number of martyrs’ bodies found following the Israeli withdrawal.
On Sunday, the Israeli army confirmed the withdrawal of its forces from Khan Yunis, four months following launching a ground operation there, coinciding with half a year since the start of the longest war to date on Gaza.
An army source, who preferred to remain anonymous, told Anadolu: “Today, Sunday, April 7, the 98th Division completed its mission in the Khan Yunis area,” and left the Gaza Strip for the purpose of “recovery and preparation for future missions.”
He added, “In the Gaza Strip, a large force belonging to the 162nd Division and the Nahal Brigade continues to be active, which will preserve the freedom of action of the army forces in the Strip to launch precise operations based on intelligence information.”
The Israeli army’s invasion of Khan Yunis began on December 3, 2023, with the aim of recovering Israeli detainees held by Hamas, but according to its claims of withdrawal, it left the city without achieving its goals.
Israel holds at least 9,100 Palestinian prisoners in its prisons, and their conditions have worsened since it began a devastating war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, according to these organizations.
The ongoing Israeli war on Gaza for 6 months has left more than 100,000 dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and massive destruction and famine that have claimed the lives of children and the elderly, according to Palestinian and UN data.
On the eve of Eid al-Fitr, Israel continues the war despite the issuance of an immediate ceasefire resolution by the Security Council, as well as despite its first appearance before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing “genocide.”
