So far, only a few Apple devices support the Wi-Fi 6Eincluding the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros with an M2 chip, the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, and Macs mini — everything else, however, remains limited to Wi-Fi 6 (or earlier).
However, a new forecast from analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O’Malley of Barclays points out that Apple will expand support for Wi-Fi 6E for the line “iPhone 15”.
So far, it has not been determined whether support will be limited to top-of-the-line models — as a way of differentiating from entry-level versions, like some other possible features.
Wi-Fi 6E works on the same 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands as Wi-Fi 6, but it also works on the 6GHz band — this allows for faster wireless speeds and less signal interference. To use the 6GHz band, devices must be connected to a router supporting the new standard, naturally.
It is worth noting that rumors of iPhones supporting Wi-Fi 6E are not new: it was expected that the iPhones 13 would be equipped with the technology, which obviously did not happen – and it remained in the iPhones 14.
It has also been speculated that Apple will skip the latest generation and, from Wi-Fi 6, only implement support for Wi-Fi 7 (whose first devices with support are expected at the beginning of this year) in 2024.
