In order to combat fraud in streaming, the Apple Music has adopted stricter rules when counting reproductions. The company’s idea is precisely to discourage and penalize anyone who tries to artificially increase numbers on the platform.
Despite being used for some time, the system was only revealed yesterday by Billboard. According to the website, Maçã is able to impose fines on those who defraud the data, in addition to sending daily reports to record companies and distributors — highlighting suspicious content.
These frauds, which range from using bots to play songs repeatedly or even create fake accounts to artificially increase plays, undermine the veracity of the data and give an unfair advantage to some artists.
Among other measures taken by the company are the removal of streams manipulated graphics and work to find new ways to detect and prevent this cheating — there is even a team just to investigate the cases.
Consequences for those who commit fraud include canceling accounts, removing content, ending agreements and financial adjustments. According to the Billboardthis has already led to a 30% reduction in fraud — and currently less than 0,3% of the streams on Apple Music are fraudulent.
Other companies, such as Spotifyalso face this problem — and some of them are coming together to eliminate this cheating, like released by Music Week last June. The idea is to ensure that artists are paid fairly for their work, promoting a more equitable music industry for everyone.
Apple Music has a catalog of more than 100 million songs and 30 thousand playlists — many of them supporting Spatial Audio (Dolby Atmos) and in very high definition, with audio Lossless. For those who love classical music, there is a dedicated app with over 5 million tracks, all in a simplified interface! In Brazil, there are three types of subscription: University (R$11.90/month), Individual (R$21.90/month) is Familiar (R$34.90/month). If you are not a subscriber, You can test the service for free for one month. It is also part of the company’s subscription package, Apple One.
