The Conselto reviews, in the next report, how cancer leads to death.
Why does cancer lead to death?
Dr. Amr Attia, Professor of Oncology Surgery at the National Cancer Institute, says that cancerous tumors are among the deadly diseases that take the lives of some patients, and the extent of the damage caused by cancer on the body varies according to its type, extent of spread, time of discovery and treatment stages.
He points out that cancers of all kinds take over the affected organ and hinder it from performing its function, as cancer cells feed on the food designated for human cells, and secrete some harmful substances that reach and affect the rest of the body’s organs.
Attia explains that cancerous tumors expand inside the body and expel normal cells from their place, and secrete substances that disrupt the functioning of the heart, lung, or brain, especially if the tumors reach the lymphocytes.
