The Metropolitan Police has opened an investigation into allegations that British runner Sir Muhammad Farah was smuggled by a married couple into Britain and forced to work as a domestic slave.
Sir Mohamed Farah told the BBC that he was smuggled to London by a stranger who helped him escape the war in Somalia under a fake photo when he was nine years old.
The four-time Olympic champion reports that the couple he was living with forced him to cook, clean and take care of the children.
He also asserts that they told him that he would never see his family once more if he told anyone the truth.
The police said they were aware of the allegations and opened an investigation. A statement from the force said: “Specialized officers have opened an investigation and are currently evaluating the available information.”
Sir Muhammad Farah explained in his statements to the “BBC” that he was brought to Britain illegally when he was a child, and he was forced to work as a housemaid.
The Olympic star reported that those who took him by air from Djibouti called him Mohamed Farah, and his real name is Hussein Abdi Kahin.
“For years, I kept this secret, but you cannot keep it secret for long,” said Mohamed Farah.
The long-distance runner has previously said he came to Britain from Somalia with his parents as a refugee.
