After his execution was suspended, an Iranian defendant was killed in court as “retaliation”

An Iranian forest ranger, whose death sentence had been suspended by judicial authorities, was killed today, Saturday, by the victim’s father in front of the court.

Earlier this year, the judiciary had sentenced Boromand Najafi to death for the murder of a person believed to be practicing illegal fishing in Kermanshah province in the west of the country.

But in April, judicial authorities suspended the sentence and ordered a retrial at the request of defense attorneys.

Following a session held in the framework of the retrial on Saturday, Kermanshah Prosecutor Shahram Karmi said in a statement to television: “Today, Boromand Najafi was killed by the hands of the victim’s father with three Kalashnikov bullets in front of the court.”

Karmi continued: “Before that, a relative of the victim attacked the prison guard who was accompanying Najafi with an ax and wounded him in the hand.” He added that the two attackers “escaped.”

According to local media, dozens of forest rangers have been killed by poachers in recent years in several Iranian regions.

In May of this year, the murderer of two forest rangers was executed in the northwest of the country.
