Ukraine forces are strengthened with a new weapon in the quiver. Ukraine has received the US-made M270 multiple launch rocket system. It has the ability to fire multiple rockets into the enemy camp at once.

Earlier, the US had handed over Himars or M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System rocket launchers to Ukraine. The M270 uses the same rockets used in the Himars. But there is a difference. Twice as many rockets can be launched from the M270 than from the Himars.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov announced yesterday that they have received M270 rockets. The M270 is US-made, but which country supplied Ukraine with this weapon remains a mystery.

Experts believe that Britain or Norway may have supplied these weapons to Ukraine. The German government has also previously announced that it will supply its M270 variant, known as the Mars Second, to Ukraine.

The Himars and M270 fire mainly 227 mm artillery rockets. They can also fire short-range ballistic missiles called Army Tactical Missiles. The missiles are loaded in groups called pods.

M270 launchers are mounted on armored vehicles. They can load two ammunition pods at a time. Twelve 227 mm rockets can be fired from the M270 at once. In case of army tactical missiles, two can be fired from it at once.

Himars can only load one ammunition pod at a time. So it can only fire half the number of missiles fired by the M270 at once. However, it can be fitted to many more vehicles and platforms than the M270, so it can be deployed anywhere, anytime, and at any speed in battle.

The 227 mm rockets used in these can destroy enemy bunkers and weapons within 70 km. If army tactical missiles are used, it will get a range of up to 300 km. The US has provided 227 mm rockets to Ukraine. But the US has not provided them with Army tactical missiles as a precaution to prevent Ukraine from attacking Russia.

The Himars missiles are mainly used by Ukraine to destroy the weapons storage facilities and logistics supply routes established by Russia in Ukraine. Ukraine claims that they are succeeding in this.
