After handing over the lighthouse to the municipality of Palanga, it is intended to be adapted for tourism

In June, the municipality applied to the Property Bank for the transfer of the lighthouse. The lighthouse is located in the same territory as the property belonging to the municipality and forms the building complex of the Šventoji lighthouse. It is planned to adapt it to the needs of society.

As the municipality of Palanga informed BNS, the public procurement procedures for the preparation of a detailed plan of the territory, which includes the lighthouse and surrounding buildings, are currently underway. They should be completed early next year. During the preparation of the detailed plan, questions regarding the arrangement of the territory and access to it will be resolved.

In parallel, the design of adapting the lighthouse, technical building and warehouse to the needs of society is being prepared, and it is intended to be completed within a year.

“The examination of the navigation tower with the lighthouse carried out during the design will answer questions regarding the current condition of the lighthouse, what and how can be changed in the lighthouse, what are the maximum possible weights of structures and devices. Then, a technical project will be prepared to adapt Švyturi to the needs of society,” the municipality announced.

According to her, the designed navigation tower with a lighthouse will maintain its main – navigational – function and will be adapted for tourism. It is planned to install an elevator, replace the current ladder with a spiral staircase.

It is also planned to remodel the quadrangular part in the upper part of the lighthouse – a round-shaped room is to be installed here. It is planned not only to hold educations, but also to provide an opportunity to admire the views of Šventoji, its surroundings and the sea from a height of 40 meters, even in bad weather.

We want to expand the observation deck above, and decorate the lighthouse with the coat of arms of Šventoji on the eastern side.

According to the municipality, the reconstruction of the technical building and warehouse on the territory will also be designed, adapting these buildings to the lighthouse museum and other exhibitions, artists’ workshops open to the public, and education.

It is planned to arrange the environment of the lighthouse, to provide a convenient access and a parking lot.

According to the municipality, the preliminary value of the works will be known when the design is completed, and the exact value will be known when the works are purchased.

The government announced that the project will aim to receive European funding.
