Disneyland Paris, one of Europe’s leading private tourist destinations that is engaged in a vast expansion project, has announced the opening for 2026 of its new attraction around the hit franchise Frozen.

The group also announced on Saturday night, during the D23 convention for Disney fans in California, the opening in Paris of a “spectacular aquatic attraction” based on The Lion King, “one of the most popular Disney franchises with the general public around the world, and particularly in Europe,” according to a press release.

“This new place dedicated to this franchise that has made several generations dream, is a first that does not exist anywhere else,” said Natacha Rafalski, president of Disneyland Paris, located in Marne-la-Vallée (Seine-et-Marne) to the west of Paris.

The Lion King attraction will open after “World of Frozen”, the themed area dedicated to Frozen that fans have been eagerly awaiting. Both will be built in the group’s second park, now called Walt Disney Studios and which will be renamed Disney Adventure World for the occasion.

New restaurants and shows, hotel renovations, new attractions… after its expansion, the park, which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year, should almost double its surface area.

Funded by parent company the Walt Disney Company, the project, announced in 2018, will cost two billion euros.

The American giant had indicated during the publication of its quarterly results at the beginning of August that its parks were suffering a drop in their revenues, partly due to the results of Disneyland Paris.

The latter is also suffering the backlash from the Olympic Games, which have created an avoidance effect on the French capital, a classic for this type of major event for a certain number of tourists.
