In a new development in the electric car market in the United States, General Motors and Tesla announced Thursday that owners of General Motors electric cars will soon be able to use the huge network of fast electric chargers owned by Tesla.
General Motors said it will start integrating Tesla’s charging ports into its new electric cars, starting in 2025.
General Motors CEO Mary Barra said the move would not only help speed up the transition to electric vehicles, but would also help “steer the industry to adopt a unified charging standard in North America.”
And by 14:25 GMT, “General Motors” shares rose by 3.71 percent, and “Tesla” shares continued to achieve gains for the eleventh consecutive session, as it rose by 6.77 percent.
This step comes following the Tesla and Ford groups announced, two weeks ago, that starting next year, Tesla’s supercharger network in the United States and Canada will be open to Ford electric cars.
“Starting early 2024, all current and future Ford customers will have access to 12,000 Tesla superchargers,” Ford President Jim Farley said in a Twitter interview with Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
And Tesla had announced several years ago, according to its president, that the fast charger network might be available to anyone who wanted, but since then no agreement has been made regarding the rights to use this network with any other car company.
