Daedalic Entertainment, developer of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, announced that it will no longer develop games. The decision came following the disastrous launch of the action-adventure game set in the universe of Lord of the Rings.
According to the official statement issued, in all, 25 employees who worked in game development were fired, while others will be reallocated to work in other departments following the company shifts its focus to the publishing sector.
Therefore, a new project by Daedalic Entertainment involving Lord of the Rings which was planned will be stopped, while the development of Surviving Deponia will be handled by the AtomicTorch studio and will only be published by Daedalic.
The company was founded in March 2007 and has always stood out for making point and click games and graphic adventures, as well as some RPG titles. The Lord of Rings: Gollum was the biggest project in the studio’s history, but it was not well received by audiences.
All this dissatisfaction was due to the numerous bugs and technical problems that did not even allow players to play. The title It reached very low averages on Metacritic.both from specialized critics and the general public.
