Yesterday, Wednesday, the state Electricity of Lebanon Corporation announced the return of electricity following an hour-long interruption in most of the Lebanese territories, following the last two power plants stopped working, and this pushed the demonstrators to the streets.

The institution said, in a statement, that the Central Bank of Lebanon informed it that it had paid the dues of the company operating the Deir Ammar (north) and Zahrani (south) stations in hard currency (dollars), and as a result, the Electricité du Liban (EDL) asked the operator to reinstate the Zahrani plant in service according to the production plan. Prepared in advance, in order to maintain the sustainability of energy production at a minimum for the longest possible period, especially during the Eid al-Adha period.

Deir Ammar and Zahrani stations provide 40% of the electricity for the benefit of the entire Lebanese territory.

There are 7 power plants in Lebanon, 5 of which stopped working in the last period due to the lack of fuel.

Yesterday, Wednesday, the electricity cut led to the demonstrators taking to the streets of Beirut, as they closed the main streets with garbage bins, as an expression of their anger at the worsening economic crisis.
