After Cup promotion: Next loss for Blau-Weiß

“In the end, the only thing that counts in the cup is getting through,” said Blau-Weiß-Linz coach Gerald Scheiblehner after the 1-0 win against regional league team FC Hertha Wels. However, his team’s performance could have been improved: “You wish it were easier, but we just didn’t have our best day.”

What bothers the 47-year-old much more is the injury to Lukas Tursch, who had to leave the pitch after an hour. The initial suspicion of a broken fibula was not confirmed, but an exact diagnosis has not yet been made. The only thing that is certain is that the 28-year-old, like fellow defender Martin Moormann, who suffered a slight muscle tear in the duel with former club Rapid, will probably be out for several weeks. Lucas Dantas (ankle ligament strain) is also currently unavailable. Scheiblehner: “We currently have a shortage in the number six and central defender positions. I will need good ideas for the upcoming league game in Klagenfurt.”

Will Blue-White follow suit?

According to BW sports director Christoph Schösswendter, the transfer program on the incoming players side is complete despite the current personnel situation. Defender Aristot Tambwe-Kasengele (Rapid II), who was on trial with Blau-Weiß in July, is also no longer an issue. “We are working on getting rid of more players.” One candidate, as has been rumored for weeks, would be Danilo Mitrovic. The 23-year-old could play several positions in defense, however – should he be sold in the current situation?
