Some lawmakers of the Democratic Party of Korea, who insisted on a ‘working National Assembly’ and insisted on convening an extraordinary National Assembly in March, are frowning upon leaving for overseas business trips during the session. In the first place, since the Democratic Party opened an extraordinary session of the National Assembly to deal with various public livelihood bills including the ‘Grain Management Act’ from the 1st, it is pointed out that the overseas workshop itself is inappropriate. The power of the people was fiercely criticized as “a national fraud.”
According to the political circle on the 2nd, regarding 20 members of the Democratic Party’s assembly, ‘Better Future’ (The Mirae), left for a three-day, two-night workshop in Hanoi, Vietnam. While some pointed out that it was in fact an overseas business trip, Representative Kang Hoon-shik, the representative of Deirae, issued a statement that day and said, “The Mirae workshop was postponed several times to discuss the party’s course and general elections at the end of last year. It was done today,” he said. He added, “The detailed schedule of the workshop is private.”
Despite the ruling party’s criticism of the ‘bulletproof National Assembly’, the Democratic Party held an extraordinary National Assembly in March from the 1st, a public holiday, as soon as the February extraordinary session ended. However, since the beginning of the provisional session of the National Assembly, the members of the party have left overseas and are causing controversy. An official from the Democratic Party was concerned that “the party is already in a confusing situation with the bulletproof National Assembly, but only negative public opinion will increase over the enforcement of the schedule.”
In response, Yang Geum-hee, chief spokesman for People’s Power, said, “For the first time in constitutional history, the National Assembly Act was ignored and the 3/1 Lee Jae-myeong Bulletproof National Assembly was pushed forward, but the National Assembly was abandoned and went abroad as a group, not official parliamentary diplomacy.” It is going with personal money, not the National Assembly, so we go whether or not the National Assembly is held, and the perception that it is a problem is deplorable.”
