after China summit with Salvini and Tajani –

Proceed with the Rai nominations. This is the input that Giorgia Meloni launches from Beijing before flying to Shanghai for the last leg of the mission in China. The dossier has been on the table of the majority for weeks and the goal now is to find an agreement with Forza Italia and, above all, Lega to close the game before the summer break of parliamentary work. Upon the return to Rome of the prime minister, expected in Paris on Thursday for the Olympic Games, a summit will be held with the deputies Antonio Tajani and Matteo Salvini to take stock of the situation and unblock the impasse. The date is not yet set in the agenda but, as the secretary of FI explains while talking to reporters in the Transatlantic of the Chamber, “Meloni said she will return on Friday and we will talk. I don’t know if we will see each other on Friday or Monday, we’ll see. She told me that when she returns we will talk about everything”.

Storm over Rai author, insults to Meloni and daughter: and the left is silent

In the event of white smoke, the vote for the four members of the board of directors appointed by parliament for the public broadcaster could be scheduled for Tuesday or at the latest Wednesday of next week in the Chamber and Senate (two from FdI and Lega for the majority and two indicated by Pd and M5s for the opposition), while the appointment in the Supervisory Commission to ratify the indication of the new president would be set for Thursday. Certainly, as explained by Meloni, on the nominations “we will have to proceed, also because the president” Marinella Soldi resigned, “so it is certainly something we must deal with in the coming weeks”.

The board of directors of Rai has meanwhile taken note of the resignation submitted by Soldi, whose functions will now be carried out by the oldest director in age who, in the current composition of the board of directors, is the CEO Roberto Sergio. The plan on the table at the moment foresees that Simona Agnes be indicated as president on the Forza Italia quota while Giampaolo Rossi will be the CEO indicated by the Melonians. The League, to give the green light, continues to ask for the general director (in addition to new directions within the organizational chart), a figure who however should no longer appear in the organizational chart. Hence the need to take stock upon Meloni’s return to find a comprehensive agreement that will then keep Rai under Supervision.

From Beijing, the Prime Minister also returned to the governance of the public service, confessing that she is “absolutely secular: it is not a reform that I made, I have not even particularly defended it, so if those who wrote it today say that it is terrible, we can talk about it”. On the privatization hypothesis, however, Meloni limited herself to explaining that she had “read these rumors” but did not know “where they came from, I have nothing to say about this”. “I can only confirm – she added – that I confirm that I do not need a TeleMeloni. I do not need it, I am not interested, I do not want it, except for my social channels, which however are followed by those who want to follow them”.

Another dossier that should be a hot topic at the majority summit is the one related to the indication of the Italian commissioner to be sent to Brussels. The name remains that of the Minister for European Affairs and the PNRR, Raffaele Fitto. On the delegations, Meloni explained, “I am talking to Ursula von der Leyen, there are contacts in progress”. To indicate “these names – she then added – we have until August 30. I believe that on this we clearly need to also make an evaluation with the parties of the majority, but in short it is one of the first things I will deal with as soon as I return to Italy”.
