Al-Marsad newspaper: The spokesman for the Coptic Orthodox Church in Egypt, Archpriest Moussa Ibrahim, said that the issue of the child Shenouda is a humanitarian issue in the first place, and we hope to solve it within the framework of the law.
He added: What concerns us in the first place is the application of the law, as well as maintaining the psychological stability and safety of this innocent child.
The case of the child Shenouda during the last period sparked widespread controversy on various social networking sites, and made many people talk regarding adoption and sponsorship laws in Egypt.
The story of the child Shenouda began, when a Christian couple found the child at the door of a church, and he was a few days old. They decided to adopt him following consulting the concerned people in the church, as they did not have children. The family named the child, Shenouda Farouk Fawzy, and he lived between them for four years.
The controversy erupted in Shenouda’s story since the husband’s sister’s daughter filed a complaint with the Public Prosecution to challenge the child’s parentage to the foster family, and said that the child had been kidnapped, and following the spouses and the child underwent DNA analysis, and it was proven that he was not related to them, the Egyptian Public Prosecution decided to place him in an orphanage as Disqualified” and changed his name to Youssef, as his religion was changed.
