In his first comment on the cancellation of his concert in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, the Moroccan artist responded Saad Lamjarred “Story” crossed his account on “Instagram”, sharing a picture with his brother Ali, who lives in London, and wrote on it, “Iraq loves you, no matter what happens, we send you a lot of love from Baghdad. We are very happy.”
Lamjarred’s comment came following the administration of the “Sinbad Land” tourist city in Baghdad canceled the ceremony, which was scheduled, yesterday evening, Thursday, following protesters stormed the place.
break-in attempts
The canceled concert was considered the first for the famous star in Iraq, on the land of the city of Sindbad Land, east of the capital.
Hundreds of opponents, led by clerics, gathered in front of the tourist city, and raised banners once morest the establishment of parties and nights. While some demonstrators tried to storm the tourist city, the riot forces managed to repel them.
Following these gatherings, the management canceled the event completely.
The administration of “Sinbad Land” had decided to postpone the concert of the Moroccan artist in Baghdad from June 2 to 9 of the same month, in order to coincide with the first date of the fortieth anniversary of the killing of Imam Ali, according to a statement by the administration published by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
‘violating norms’
These developments come as some armed factions and extremist groups repeatedly pressure to cancel artistic and musical concerts, claiming that they coincide with religious ceremonies, or that they contravene the norms prevailing in Iraqi society or religious teachings, as they claim.
It is noteworthy that “Sinbad Land” is considered one of the largest games cities in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. It is also the first to hold concerts hosted by prominent Arab artists.
