On the occasion of Dry January, a Nantes boutique has launched a “After Calendar” filled with 24 alcohol-free craft beers, to help those who are embarking on this alcohol-free January challenge.

A third of French people plan to participate: Dry January, the alcohol-free January challenge, has more and more fans following the excesses of the holidays. This is an opportunity to take a break and question your alcohol consumption. Better sleep, saving money and more controlled consumption following January: the benefits are numerous according to the Addiction Federation. To support and help those who want to get started: a Nantes store selling non-alcoholic beers, wines and spirits has created the “After Calendar”. Obviously, in this funny box, there is no chocolate, warns Jean-Philippe Braud, founder of Face of Joy : “24 beers, 22 breweries represented, 11 different beer styles from seven countries. This calendar allows you to discover non-alcoholic beer in its diversity and to facilitate this month of abstinence for some.

We work “with good breweries who put their know-how at the service of alcohol-free versions”

To convince, the founder of the store wants to promote quality non-alcoholic beers: “we do not sell dealcoholized beer. We prefer to work with good breweries who put their know-how at the service of alcohol-free versions. They limit fermentation and capitalize on quality ingredients and raw materials, such as very aromatic hops to maintain substance and length in the mouth. When blind, you can hardly see the difference with beers that are very dense in taste.

Take a break and evaluate your relationship with alcohol

Jean Philippe Braud is a fervent defender of this Dry January. “Every year, we have more and more French people who have this experience, confides the trader. It’s not always easy to take the step to reduce your alcohol consumption. There, with Dry January, it is an opportunity to come together, to unite.”

Each year, this has an impact on its turnover: there is real enthusiasm in January, it’s our best month! During the year, many don’t necessarily think regarding moderation but for a month (they) enjoy taking a break. And what pleases the French is that it’s not a month to stop drinking permanently, it’s to take a break and evaluate your relationship with alcohol. For some, it’s interesting to see if it’s easy to live in society, and if it’s difficult, we can wonder regarding our consumption throughout the rest of the year.”

Unlike No Tobacco Month, this initiative is not particularly supported by the government. Associations fighting addictions accuse Head of State Emmanuel Macron of complacency towards the alcohol industry, while each year, alcoholic beverages are responsible for 49,000 deaths and 28,000 new cases of cancer in France. .
