Etiquette expert Amina Shelbaya recently started providing special advice on etiquette, fashion and beauty rules, and training people to eat with a fork and knife, by posting videos on her Facebook page.
Despite this, there are a range of health benefits of eating with hands, according to the “parenting” and “food.ndtv” websites.
Increase blood circulation:
Eating with the hands is an excellent muscular exercise and in turn increases blood circulation and excessive movement of the hands helps keep the blood flowing more smoothly.
Digestion improvement:
The moment we touch the food with our fingers, the nerve endings in the fingertips signal to the brain that we are regarding to eat and the message is also transmitted to the stomach, which begins to prepare for digestion by releasing enzymes and digestive juices needed for proper digestion.
Weight loss:
When people eat by hand while reading a newspaper or watching TV at the same time, they are less hungry while eating snacks. In addition, eating by hand promotes feelings of fullness and satiety compared to eating with cutlery, which in turn helps in weight loss.
Type 2 diabetes prevention:
People with type 2 diabetes are more likely to eat quickly than those who use cutlery to eat, compared to people without the condition.
Eating with spoons and forks is associated with faster eating which is linked to blood sugar imbalance in the body, which contributes more to type 2 diabetes, so it is better to eat with hands.
To prevent burning of the tongue:
When someone eats with a fork, they may not realize how hot the food is as it goes straight from the plate to their mouth, but when you touch the food while eating it with your hands, the nerve endings of your fingertips transmit the temperature reading to the brain, thus preventing you from burning your tongue.
