Chinese-American singer Coco Lee died on Wednesday, at the age of 48, following attempting suicide last Sunday, according to her family.
The singer, whose song in “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” won an Oscar, struggled with depression and tried to get help several times.
Her sisters, Carlo and Nancy Lee, said: “Coco suffered from depression for a few years, but her condition has deteriorated significantly over the past few months.”
They added, “Although Koko sought help and did everything she might to fight depression, she was taken over by the demon inside her.”
And they continued in the statement: “On July 2, she committed suicide at home and was sent to the hospital. Despite the efforts of the hospital staff to save her and treat her from her coma, she passed away on July 5, 2023.”
The year 2023 marks the 30th anniversary of Coco’s singing career, and she won countless international awards with her best-selling songs and left an amazing impression on the audience.
It is worth noting that Coco was distinguished for performing the voice of Mulan, one of the most famous Disney characters, and her song Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was nominated for the Oscar for Best Song in 2001, and won four awards.
