After a short hiatus, strikes have returned to knock on the doors of courts in Morocco, as the Democratic Union of Justice announced a 72-hour national strike on August 27, 28 and 29, and another national strike on September 3, 4 and 5.

In addition, the National Office of the Union decided to organize a national protest march on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, starting from Mamounia Square in front of the Ministry of Justice headquarters towards the Ministry of Economy and Finance headquarters.

This trade union body confirmed in a statement that the announced steps come as part of “continuing its struggle until a fair and motivating basic system is approved in accordance with the formula agreed upon with the Ministry of Justice,” calling on the National Council to convene in a regular session on the evening of Wednesday, September 4, 2024, immediately after the national protest march to evaluate and approve the next steps of the struggle program.

The National Office of the Union stressed that it “authorized the local offices, each according to its capabilities, to create forms of struggle and mobilization accompanying the national strike in a way that enhances the participation of all cadres and employees of the Registry Authority, with the necessity of opening up to the professional bodies assisting the judiciary, seeking their understanding of its struggle program and their support for its just and legitimate demands.”

The same source confirmed that he “spared no effort to strengthen the institution of sectoral dialogue and its results to avoid pushing towards a crisis in the sector”, while renewing his call to the government parties to “assume full responsibility for what the situation will lead to”.

Justice sector workers are anticipating the possible consequences of these steps, as the continuation of these strikes and protests creates a crisis within one of the vital sectors in the Kingdom, in light of the circumstances in which the country is witnessing important changes and transformations.
