After a pause of 5 months, the Russian Federation is gradually increasing the use of KN-23 with the DPRK, as this may indicate

Air Force Commander Mykola Oleschuk reported that on the night of August 11, 2024, for a new attack on our country, Russia used 57 Shahed-131/136 kamikaze drones, which were launched from the Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Yeisk, and Kursk regions, and four ballistic missiles KN-23 produced by North Korea, which were launched from the Voronezh region.

It is noted that as a result of the combat work of mobile fire groups, aviation, means of electronic warfare and anti-aircraft missile systems, it was possible to shoot down 54 enemy kamikaze drones. Regarding the North Korean KN-23, the following was stated about these missiles – “although they rarely achieve the desired goals, they pose a serious threat to the population.”

We can understand where one of the above-mentioned North Korean KN-23 ballistic missiles fell from this message on the Telegram channel of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

It says that a North Korean missile probably fell that night in the Kyiv region, destroyed the homes of civilians, and as a result of this terrorist act by the aggressor country, a father and son were killed, and three more people were injured.

It is emphasized separately that for effective protection against the enemy’s ballistic weapons, Ukraine needs additional means, in particular, anti-missile complexes and the lifting of restrictions on strikes on the territory of the Russian Federation.

From Defense Express we add the following. To begin with, we should note that after a pause of 5 months, the Russian Federation has resumed and is gradually increasing the use of KN-23 ballistic missiles for strikes against Ukraine.

The first episode of the use of this model of missile weapons after a long pause took place on July 31, the KN-23 from the DPRK did not reach the target. The next episode of the use of these missiles took place on August 6 of this year, when one of the North Korean KN-23, which fell near Brovary, disintegrated in the air.

Against this background, we can assume that the enemy could use this 5-month pause for work on the KN-23 refinement or to develop new tactics for using this weapon for attacks on Ukraine.
