The investigation began on Saturday in the case of the man who was killed by police officers following a machete attack on Friday followingnoon in Bad Sauerbrunn (Mattersburg district). An autopsy of the dead attacker has been ordered, said the spokeswoman for the Eisenstadt public prosecutor’s office, Petra Bauer, in response to an APA request.

On Friday, a 55-year-old German citizen first threatened his wife and then two alerted law enforcement officers with a machete. One of the police officers was injured – his protective equipment prevented anything worse from happening. The perpetrator was then killed by shots from his service weapon. The two officers were police officers from the responsible inspection who were called to help.

In parallel to the public prosecutor’s investigation, internal investigations by the Vienna State Criminal Police Office are ongoing. Among other things, it is important to clarify the number of shots fired and the number of service weapons used.
