The slope in Hörbranz (Bregenz district) that started to slide on Friday evening is still in motion. Mayor Andreas Kresser said that on Monday at the APA request following a briefing in the morning. At the house at the foot of the slope where cracks had formed due to the landslide, further cracks had appeared, said Kresser. According to the head of the community, the building is still habitable. Currently you can only “watch and measure”, said Kresser.

According to the mayor, according to the experts, the slope has turned into a creeping movement. “The terrible thing is: You can’t do anything once morest a creeping movement,” Kresser stated. However, there is no need to worry regarding another big slide. In this regard, the situation has not deteriorated despite the continuous rain in Vorarlberg on Monday. On Sunday, the state surveying office had set measuring points, which are used to continuously evaluate the movement of the slope.

The damaged farmhouse – it has cracks in the walls and floor several meters long – was checked once more by a structural engineer and classified as habitable. A night lock, which had also affected other houses, was lifted on Sunday. Whether the farmhouse can be saved remains to be seen.

Because of a landslide, 39 people were taken out of their homes as a precaution on Saturday night in Hörbranz in the Hochreute / Halbenstein area. According to the police, a forest slope regarding 150 meters wide was constantly in motion. Trees were snapped, debris pushed through the forest. Neighbors had alerted the police because disturbing noise might be heard from the forest.
