The Egyptian Ministry of Interior said, on Saturday, that the civil protection forces were able to control the fire that broke out earlier today, in a commercial center in Alexandria.

“On examination, it was found that the fire broke out in the central air conditioning on the roof of the commercial center building,” the statement said.

The statement said that the fire was brought under control without any loss of life or impact on the building.

The statement of the Ministry of the Interior concluded with a confirmation that legal measures were taken in connection with this incident, which caused panic among those inside the mall, and even the citizens who were in the streets near it.

For his part, the official spokesman for the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population, Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, said that the Minister of Health directed to raise the level of preparedness in all hospitals located in the geographical surroundings of the fire in the Muharram Bek area.

Abdul Ghaffar said, according to what was quoted by Al-Hurra TV correspondent, that as soon as the fire was reported, 12 equipped ambulances were dispatched, in addition to a medical supply car, explaining that ambulance services were provided at the scene of the accident.

She said that thick plumes of smoke rose from the cinemas area, while protection pushed a number of firefighting vehicles to control the fire, which did not result in casualties or injuries.

The initial inspection indicated that the fire was caused by the explosion of an electric generator, followed by a fire that spread inside the central air conditioners.

The Public Prosecution Office, which launched the investigation, was notified, while the Criminal Investigation Department was assigned to investigate the incident, according to the same source.
