Kovo 7 d. portal 15min.lt published a journalistic investigation “Alfa has been polluting Vilnius forests for 15 years: the officials know, but they don’t stop it”. The investigation names specific individuals who have been engaged in illegal waste disposal activities for regarding 15 years, during which thousands of tons of waste were collected and removed: by destroying, burying, dumping them in plots of land, forests, and other territories belonging to individuals or the state.
“When you see a journalistic investigation regarding illegal dumps, it is surprising that the activity was carried out in such a brutal way, many laws are not followed and, one can only regret, that there are no punishments that have a real impact. Such illegal activity undoubtedly causes great damage to nature and the state, it is affected by the shadow market, the state and individuals suffer great losses when removing waste from their territories,” says A. Gedvilienė.
In the appeal of the member of the Seimas to the prosecutor’s office, the following is requested:
– take measures for the protection of public interest and apply measures for the protection of public interest related to violations of environmental protection and the resulting damage to the state;
– take all measures to stop further illegal activities of persons engaged in illegal waste disposal;
– to assess whether the publicly released information regarding the harmful actions of the persons mentioned in the journalistic investigation to the environment do not contain signs of a crime or misdemeanor once morest the environment and human health and, if they are found, to initiate a pre-trial investigation.
