The Social Action Cooperator (COAS) that donated “devices to public hospitals so that patients receive timely and quality medical care,” this Monday announced that following 47 years of solidarity activity it closes its doors: “The complex economic situation does not allow us to move forward.”
As stated in the statement published this Monday through their account on the social network Instagram where they announced their closure, COAS has always generated resources from its own worka novel mechanism for that time: ”From the first day we constituted ourselves as a social enterprise. We wanted to innovate in the way we collect funds: we devised commercial ventures and allocated the profits to our charitable purpose. This is how the dearest was born Fair nationsour main source of income.”
The night of Cimientos: under the motto “Young people in focus”, the NGO held its annual event at the Teatro Colón
In the last two years and in the middle of the pandemic, COAS developed the national campaign “By helping you help yourself” that produced 150 million pesoswhich were entirely intended to help equip public hospitals throughout the country once morest covid-19. In addition, they organized dinners in which they annually awarded personalities, media and solidarity organizations, contributing to the economic support of the entity.
With the arrival of the pandemic, the Nations Fairs were stopped. Although there was a virtual edition in 2020, it was not the same. “The pandemic was a trigger and shook the economic organization of the institution,” he said. Eduardo Galvez collaborator from COAS to PERFIL.
Since there were not the same resources as before and not obtaining the donors that were previously available, the situation of COAS was devastating, to the point of evaluating its closure.

“Although any political and economic decision affects ‘your own business’, COAS’s business was always supportive: generating its own profitability to apply it to a social good; and their businesses were not paying off. It’s not that they don’t give results now because Milei took over now, “They haven’t been happening for a long time,” reported the COAS consultant. And he added: “The institution never expects anything from the government since it is a civil society Association”.
As PROFILE learned, the fair was a macro event that “it required an immense organization with an enormous maintenance cost” and that not being able to do it for several years “put in check the institution, its economy and its way of organizing.”
“Assembling such a complex structure with imported products from all over the world required a certain dynamic that cooled and dissolved over the two and a half years of the pandemic. There was practically nothing left and putting such a complex mechanism back into operation required a lot of effort, which is why it was decided to go this far,” explained Eduardo Gálvez.

COAS announcement
“For 47 years COAS donated equipment to public hospitals so that patients received timely and quality medical care. In the last decade we added education by supporting different nursing schools.
We operate within the CABA area in 32 public hospitals, the SAME, the Pasteur Institute, the Nazareth Workshop and in nursing schools. At the national level we support hospitals in the AMBA area and several provinces. We received the vital contribution of countless people, organizations, companies and institutions that formed a true community around our solidarity project.
Today, as we look back, we think regarding the road we have traveled. From day one we established ourselves as a social company. We wanted to innovate in the way we collect funds: we devised commercial ventures and allocated the profits to our charitable purpose. Thus was born the beloved Fair of Nations, our main source of income.
We learned to build credibility. We established alliances and planned as a team. We remained faithful to fulfilling our mission. Being transparent was almost an obsession.
We went through several crises, but we had a powerful driving force: the need for hospital patients to have timely and excellent care. Today we have to say that we got here. The complex economic situation does not allow us to move forward. It hurts us, but it also teaches us humility and strength. We are sorry to have complied.
We have allocated, and we will continue to allocate every last peso that was generated until now in our beloved hospitals. This is our truth. They were years of intense work, challenges and achievements.
All that remains is to say thank you, thousands of thanks to everyone. COAS will live forever in our hearts and we hope in all of you.”
