After 14 years with the Atlanta Falcons plays Quarterback Matt Ryan in der US-Football-Liga NFL in the future for them Indianapolis Colts. He will succeed Carson Wentz there, whom the Colts last passed to the Washington Commanders had given up.

The Falcons selected Ryan third overall in the 2008 draft. In 2016 he was named the most valuable player in the National Football League was selected and led the Falcons to the Super Bowl – there the team lost in overtime once morest the New England Patriots.

“Only” a third round pick

While this is the end of an era in Atlanta, the Colts are now trying to get consistency in the quarterback position for at least a few years with Ryan, who was 37 at the start of the season. Since Andrew Luck’s surprising resignation in 2019, Indianapolis has tried Jacoby Brissett, Philip Rivers and most recently Wentz – with moderate success.

In the trade communicated on March 21, the Falcons only got access to the third round of the draft from the Colts. Because the team had been trying to find quarterback Deshaun Watson in the past few weeks and it was clear that they were no longer planning with their veteran, the Falcons were in a comparatively bad negotiating position. Watson, however, decided to switch to the Cleveland Browns. The Falcons instead signed contracted quarterback Marcus Mariota.
