In the desperate quest for a baby

This Australian couple has come a long way. Carissa and Dave married for love and always dreamed of starting a family. Since the start of their relationship, they wanted to take the plunge to have a baby. Unfortunately, fate made their task difficult. Despite their best efforts, they were never able to realize their dream. While all their friends gave birth around them, their attempts remained in vain. Worse still, the couple believed it several times, but the miscarriages have only increased in recent years. After experiencing so many ordeals, others would certainly have thrown in the towel a long time ago, but not them. Against all odds, the duo always kept their faith and hope for a happy ending.

And the couple did well to believe in it and to fight fiercely to achieve their goal. Because, following 13 long years of effort, the reward was at the end of this long journey: Carissa and Dave were finally able to welcome their son, Oliver. He was born on December 17, at Saint-Jean-de-Dieu Murdoch Hospital. At birth, this little baby weighed two kilos and 920 g. Like a divine sign, he came into the world a few days before Christmas!

During these last years, everyday life was really not happy. The couple suffered countless complications: Carissa unfortunately suffered eight miscarriages, the fetuses of which never made it past six weeks. Needless to say, morale took a big hit each time! Even though they supported each other, Carissa and her husband were devastated by this bad fate that was hitting them. Certainly, they both carried out a range of medical examinations to try to understand where the blockage was coming from. It turned out that the problem was inside the young woman’s fallopian tubes. Indeed, one of the two had a congenital obstruction, which caused a reflux of fluids even following conception. A particularly dangerous situation for the fetus.

« The fluids were coming back into my uterus and it was like poison to the baby. The doctors removed that tube. But, we discovered that there were also fertility concerns on my husband’s side. », Tells Carissa to DailyMail. Dave’s problem stems from his job: as he is constantly in contact with the heat of the boilers, this has led to the wear and tear of many of his sperm. It turned out to be an irreversible fertility problem. But, despite all these complications, the couple never wanted to give up and continued to try to conceive naturally.

But as the years passed and miscarriages continued, doctors eventually suggested they resort to in vitro fertilization (IVF) by intracytoplasmic injection (ICSI). This method involves directly inserting the sperm into the embryo to achieve better conception results. It was the last attempt. And thank heavens, it was conclusive: following successfully fertilizing an embryo, following a full cycle of treatments, Carissa finally discovered that she was pregnant.

The “miracle baby” has finally seen the light of day…

Of course, it wasn’t just regarding achieving a new pregnancy, it also had to last! And, miraculously, as the weeks passed, Carissa believed it more. The couple prayed every day to finally realize their dream. And then the big day arrived: the much-desired baby came into the world. He was even in a hurry to meet his future parents, since the baby was three weeks early. When he was born, his oxygen levels dropped to 20% for nine minutes, so he was immediately intubated. But this little one fought like a brave warrior: following three hours, the medical team managed to stabilize him and he was then taken to the neonatal emergency room.

« We hoped he would be released from the hospital before Christmas, but that was not the case. No matter how long it took for him to be fully fit to be discharged, we knew he was perfectly well taken care of. Oliver was housed in the best conditions to receive all the care he needed. His birth was a true miracle for us », explained the mother.

After some time, the baby left the hospital in good health, much to the relief of his parents. He now lives surrounded by the love and affection of his loved ones. “ Holding Oliver in my arms for the first time was magical! », concludes Carissa, whose gratitude is infinite. After all these long years of suffering and hope, the couple was finally able to let go and thank heaven for having the chance to finally taste this new happiness.
