The alcohol test is done in two steps. When the vehicle is first stopped, the drivers are tested using a qualitative method. At this time, the alcohol tester is in quick test mode, the driver only needs to blow a small amount of air into the machine to detect alcohol. The whole qualitative inspection process only takes regarding 1-2 minutes, making sure not to cause trouble for the driver.
If the driver is found to have alcohol, the traffic police will ask the driver to get off the vehicle for a quantitative test. This step will give the correct violation index of the driver.
For example, the case of driver NNG (SN 1975, residing in Hanoi) driving a car with license plate number 30E-566.XX, violated the alcohol concentration at 0.142 mg/L breathing air. The working group made a record of sanctioning the NNG driver with the violation of alcohol concentration and without a driver’s license. With the above error, driver G. was fined up to 9.5 million VND and impounded the vehicle for 7 days.
Driver G. is also the only case of alcohol violation handled by the shift. During the 4-hour shift, 400 vehicle owners were inspected. Captain Mai Thanh Huynh said that following more than a month, the Hanoi Police Department opened a peak to check alcohol content, the number of violating drivers has decreased markedly.
Captain Mai Thanh Huynh also said that the intervention, please forgive the violators of alcohol concentration also decreased significantly. If in the past, the first thing the violator did was to pull out the phone to “ask” his loved ones, now they comply immediately.
