GALERIKERTAS Studiohanafi witnessed a unique and captivating art event, namely a performance lecture entitled cat keeps salted fish in its mouth by writer and critic Afrizal Malna.
This event is Malna’s second appearance in performance lecture format after her appearance in Jogja. Art + Books Fest in May 2024.
Performance lecture this tells the story of Malna’s journey in the world of words, wrapped in a special format that melts the boundaries between lecture and performance art.
The audience that filled the Galerikertas Studiohanafi garden area was presented with a series of experimental images and videos made by Malna herself that accompanied her presentation on postcolonial history in Indonesia, language issues, and the role of AI. (artificial intelligence) in the creative process of a writer.
Appearance cat keeps salted fish in its mouth followed by a discussion and question and answer session guided by researcher and writer Esha Tegar Putra.
In addition to having a relaxed discussion with the audience about the background of this work and the influence of the style ‘‘afrizalian’ in Indonesian literature, Malna also invited David Bakti, an artist currently exhibiting at Galerikertas Studiohanafi, to discuss how Bakti treats text in his installation works.

Bakti explained that these works were born from his interest in the relationship between text and form and how for him the two should not be separated.

This series of activities began with the opening of the exhibition Voice . On by David Bakti on July 6, followed by the performance Cat Keeps Salted Fish in Its Mouth on July 13, before the book review session Bek with Mahfud Ikhwan and Esha Tegar Putra on July 20, and concluded with an exhibition tour and workshop with David Bakti and curator Luqi Lukman on July 27.
As for the exhibition Voice . On will last for one month until August 6.
