Ninety-three candidates, representing 34 African countries, are taking part in the final phase of the 4th edition of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulemas memorization, recitation and psalmody of the Holy Quran, which takes place by videoconference, from April 1 to 3 in Fez.
The participants in this final will compete for the first places in the three categories of the competition, namely the category of memorization of the entirety of the Holy Quran with the recitation according to the reading Warch an Nafiâ, the category of memorization of the entirety of the Holy Quran with recitation according to the reading chosen by the candidate and the category of psalmody (Tajwid) with memorization of at least 5 Hizbs of the Holy Quran, it was specified during a press conference held on Friday in Fez, by the Foundation.
A jury composed of ulema and chanters from Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Nigeria, Tanzania, Sudan, Gabon and the Central African Republic will monitor and evaluate the candidates.
34 sections in the final competition
In coordination with a technical team from Fez, African technicians specialized in communication techniques, having benefited from training in the subject, organized by the General Secretariat of the Foundation in Fez and Dakar in 2021, will ensure the coverage and the transmission of the different stages of this competition by videoconference.
In collaboration with all of its sections in Africa, the general secretariat of the foundation organized, during the months of January and February 2023, the elimination phases of the 4th edition which made it possible to select 93 candidates (including 11 girls ) who will represent the 34 sections of the Foundation in the final competition.
Unified evaluation criteria
According to the general coordinator of the competition and expert in charge of mission with the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulemas, Mohamed Maghraoui, the final competition was preceded by elimination phases which took place during the month of January in 34 African countries, which resulted in the selection of 93 candidates, including 11 female candidates. He pointed out that the foundation has “well prepared the preparations for this 4th edition and made available to all sections the criteria and standards for organizing the competition which was supervised by ulema and specialists in memorizing the Holy Quran”the aim being, according to him, to unify the working method for the juries of all the sections.
Remember that the first edition of this competition was organized in Fez. As for the second edition, it was organized remotely, Covid19 requires, from Fez, with a large award ceremony for the winners on the esplanade of the great Mosque of Dakar. The third edition was organized at the Mohammad VI Mosque in Dar Es-salam in the Federal Republic of Tanzania, with 86 participants in summer 2022.
