On the second day of his short African tour, Olaf Scholz reaffirmed his support for Niger in the areas of cooperation that bind the two countries: education, health and security. This is the third time in the past two months that the German government has sent a delegation to Niger. He expressed alongside Mohamed Bazoum his country’s disagreement with the isolationist attitude of neighboring Mali.

A year ago to the day, the Nyiragongo volcano in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo erupted. The lava had stopped at the gates of the city of Goma, but more than 3000 houses had been destroyed.

The eruption had highlighted the lack of preparation of the authorities, and in particular the meager means allocated to the OVG, the Volcanological Observatory of Goma. One following populations are still threatened by volcanic gases.

Finally, following three years of absence, the Abidjan book fair was back from May 17 to 21. The opportunity for the organizers and participants to restore the image of Ivorian and African literature, while the sector is increasingly threatened by new sources of digital content.
