“African Theater Festival in Rabat: Celebrating Contemporary African Theatre and Culture”

Rabat African Capital of Culture for the first edition of the African Theater Festival, an event organized by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication in partnership with the Éclats de Lune Collective. The event, organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, will take place from April 24 to 30 in Rabat.

The African Theater Festival aims to highlight the richness and diversity of contemporary African theatre. This first edition will bring together companies from 10 different countries. In addition to Morocco, troops from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Mali, Cameroon, Kenya, the Comoros Islands and Benin will take part in this cultural event with an African influence.

Theater of reality, resistance, resilience, utopias, theater of cities and neighborhoods, theater of men and women, of their struggles and their dreams: the program for this first edition offers an unprecedented vision of contemporary African theatre, carried by emerging authors and directors of international renown.

The African Theater Festival will also be an opportunity to honor the creativity of women and men who have always known how to make theater in Africa a place of expression and creation, at the crossroads of cultural riches. and commitments of an entire continent.

A rich and varied program of theatrical performances, but also round tables, will offer the public a special space for exchange and debate. “Theatre in Africa, state of play and perspectives”, “How to rethink festivals in Africa” ​​and “How to create a dynamic between theater schools on the continent” are all themes that will not fail to fuel fruitful exchanges.
