African Super League: TP Mazembe victim of a financial sanction

The sound remains far from agreement between the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Tout Puissant Mazembe following the first edition of the African Super League. According to a decision by CAF, the Lubumbashi club will only receive $550,000 of the initial prize pool of one million dollars intended for it.

The refusal to wear jerseys with the “visit Rwanda” logo, official sponsors of the African Super League and the refusal to use the company “RwandAir” made available to all clubs hired by CAF for travel during this edition are the reasons for the subtraction of 450,000 dollars from the pot of Tout Puissant Mazembe. The financial sanction aims to put on alert all future clubs which strive to mix politics with football.

For his part, TP Mazembe had chosen to use his “Visit Rwanda” and “RwandaAir” to dissociate himself from this country which is killing millions of men in the East of the DRC. Moïse Katumbi and his team had a mission: “Show the world the abuses to which the DRC is a victim at the hands of neighboring Rwanda.”

However, TP Mazembe remains open to trying the adventure of the African Super League once more following a less glamorous first experience with an elimination in the quarter-finals by Esperance de Tunis. The Congolese team remains ready to take on this new challenge in accordance with its slogan “the impossible is not Mazembe”.
