Guinean Professor Siba Grovogui is one of the Guinean executives who support former South African President Thabo Mbeki in his ambition to see the African continent begin a new impetus for its development.

Present this Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the conference focused on the celebration of the anniversary of the African Union alongside his brother and friend Thabo Mbeki, he invited African intellectuals to engage in the fight for the rebirth of the ‘Africa.

According to him, contrary to the ideas that are developing in the minds of certain intellectuals on the continent, Pan-Africanism goes beyond a state problem.

“The Pan-Africanism project has always been conceived as a State issue, whereas it is a social problem. So me, as an intellectual, I come to Conakry to identify the problems of Africa, to seek solutions, to show the path through which we can go to help our rulers, our artists, our producers, the industry and everyone to take care of themselves. This is the message that I send to African intellectuals and to civil society”.

Pan-Africanism is a concept that dates from the 19th century, recalls Professor Grovogui. “The idea of African renaissance is a step beyond ambitions, beyond wishes and beyond declarations,” he believes.

But what really motivated the commitment of this Guinean intellectual to the South African statesman Mbeki? Professor Grovogui provides details.

“The reason why the idea of African renaissance appealed to me was when I heard President Mbek identify as African. Since the African Union was created, we have never spoken of the African renaissance in such a concrete way. The second idea is that President Mbeki insisted that we must take responsibility, not just the leaders, but everyone. And me as a teacher I came to identify only a problem, to find a solution to this problem and to say how we can solve it. Our elders freed us, it is up to us to take our responsibilities and proposed concrete solutions,” he concluded.
