Six months of the shaking memories of the Turkey-Syria earthquake. Afra, who was found in the rubble of the collapsed building, is also of the same age. Beyond the mind-numbing scenes, baby Afra’s smiles are a picture of hope.

Six months ago on this day, a baby was found alive inside a building destroyed by an earthquake in Jinderis, Syria. The baby was born following the umbilical cord was cut from the dead mother and the rescue workers took her to the hospital half-breathing with cuts and bruises. The people there named her Aya. It means miracle in Arabic. She was the only survivor of her family consisting of her parents and four siblings. She is perfectly healthy and is six months old. During the time Aya was in the hospital, thousands of people came to adopt her. Her father’s sister, Hala, later had to undergo a DNA test to establish a link with the baby. Her name is Afra. She lives happily with Hala’s seven children.
