Afghanistan: The business of making Karakli hats is also suffering from recession

Most businesses in Afghanistan are in serious decline, including the art of making a Qaraqli hat, which is expensive and survives only because of the hobby of a few entrepreneurs.

Syed Habib Sadat, 65, who is associated with the same business, says that this is his family profession and he himself has been doing this work for the past 52 years.

They claim that their buyers include big names like Zahir Shah, Dawood Khan, Sardar Wali and Hamid Karzai.

According to Syed Habib, this business is now declining.

During the reign of Zahir Shah, when there was a lot of abundance and low inflation, more people used this hat, so many people were associated with this profession. But now maybe only 20 percent of this business is left, because earlier there were more than 120 Qara Qli shops on both sides of the river in this market of Shah Du Shamshera in Kabul, in which only six shops are now left.
