ORLANDO, Florida– A project dealing with houses made from recycled shipping containers seeks to expand the availability of affordable housing in Daytona Beach, in Volusia County.
The SnapSpace Solutions company focuses on the construction and transformation of containers in spaces such as health clinics, businesses and now homes.
This is an example of what the company has already worked on.
“They are almost instantaneous (the houses), so they can be for a temporary need and they can also serve permanently and last 50 years or more, or they can be used for both, temporarily bringing in people to take care of them for a while. year or two until they get their house back and then they can leave,” said Chad Walton, president of Snapspace Solutions, in an interview with Telemundo 31.
The price of these containers ranges from $50,000, at a time when houses considered affordable on the market can reach $260,000, according to Lucy Stewart Desmore, a real estate agent.
Currently, the president of this company is working with the city of Daytona Beach to build these homes, so, according to what he said, making them a reality will depend on how quickly they get building permits.
IT CAN BE POWERED WITH ENERGY FROM A CAR
Walton added to Telemundo 31 that the house can be powered with the energy of a car, except to turn on the air conditioning.
At the moment, Volusia County only has three houses of this style.
