If Belgium is famous for its delicious beers around the world, it does not seem to be the most affordable country in the field. In fact, Numbeo, the data comparison site, has just produced a brand new ranking of the average price of a local beer in all European countries. We then discover that the price can vary from simple to quadruple depending on where we are.
It is in particular in the Nordic countries that beers are the most expensive, even on a global level. In Reykjavic (Iceland) and Oslo (Norway), for example, it costs more than 9.00 euros on average to drink a 0.5L beer in a bar or restaurant in 2023. On the other hand, the bill is much less salty in the South and East of the continent. In Prague (Czech Republic), you will only have to pay 2.30 euros for a beer on the terrace. In Lisbon (Portugal) and Madrid (Spain), a 0.5L beer will cost you on average between 2.50 and 3.00 euros.
But what regarding the case of Belgium? Brussels is in the middle of the ranking, in seventh place tied with Amsterdam and Rome. On average, half a liter of beer costs 5 euros on the terrace. We are nevertheless in a better position than our neighbors the French since in Paris, the thirsty will have to pay 7 euros.
