The Capitale-Nationale should be the most visited region of Quebec this summer according to tourist forecasts.
Staying there, however, promises to be expensive, and visitors may have to dip into their savings.
The average price of a night in Quebec in June, July, August and September is $246 according to data from Destination Quebec City.
This represents a 16% increase in the price since 2019.
In Montreal, it’s an average of $236 for a room, an increase of 15%.
“We can find prices for all budgets. You have to search. The market is adapting quickly and that’s a very good sign for us,” says Robert Mercure, director of Destination Québec Cité.
Hoteliers refuse to take advantage of the situation. It’s a question of supply and demand according to Michelle Doré, owner of Auberge Place d’Armes.
“I found some for $200 in Old Quebec! If you want to take your car, you go to the outskirts and you’re okay. We will not increase for fun, but everything has increased,” explains Ms. Doré.
Montreal also has high prices, but it seems easier to find a room than in Quebec during peak periods.
According to Bruno Marchand, the mayor of Quebec, there is still something for all prices.
“A speaker from the Montreal Tourist Office said: it’s a good reason to come to Montreal. I don’t think we want to chew each other’s clothes like that together. Quebec remains accessible,” says Mr. Marchand.
