Dubrovnik – There was a rude awakening for hosts in Croatia this summer season: After the prices of some accommodations were raised sharply, there were waves of cancellations. To counteract this, the prices of many accommodations have now been drastically reduced – in some cases even up to 50 percent, reports Kosmo.at. Another reason for cancellations can also be the forest fires that are also raging in Croatia due to the long-lasting heat.

Igor Popović, co-owner of the agency Adriagate, which manages 12,000 apartments along the Adriatic coast, told the newspaper Kosmo.at, that especially the hosts who hastily increased the prices are now affected by cancellations. Those who had prudently set prices might now benefit. But not only the prices of accommodation have been raised sharply, also offers in the restaurant scare the tourists.

Luxury homes in particular are said to have had difficulties and tried to lure people in with cheap last-minute offers: “When the guests noticed this, they canceled their bookings on platforms like Booking.com or Airbnb, hoping to find cheaper deals,” Popović explained.

Free cancellations put hosts in Croatia in distress

Due to the possibility of free cancellations on many platforms, which was particularly fueled by the corona pandemic, loud Kosmos many vacationers to change their plans at short notice.
