“In 1970, a spark of inspiration brought Aerosmith to life. With the help of you, our dedicated blue army, that spark became a flame that has burned for over five decades. Some of you have been with us since the beginning, and all of you are the reason we made rock ‘n’ roll history,” the band said in a statement.
Recall that last year, the 76-year-old Tyler injured his larynx, forcing the band to postpone the rest of the “Peace Out” farewell tour.
“We’ve always wanted to keep you glued to our live shows,” the announcement continues. “Steven’s voice is unique and he spent months working non-stop to restore it to its former state. Despite his efforts and the support of the best medical team, a full recovery was not possible.”
“With heartache and a heavy heart, we have decided as brothers and sisters to retire from touring,” Aerosmith added.
The band expressed their gratitude to everyone who bought tickets for the tour, their dedicated crew, their incredible team and the thousands of talented people who contributed to their historic journeys.
They closed their message by thanking “the best fans in the world. Play our music loud, now and forever. Dream On. You made our dreams come true.”
