The American rock band has announced that it will no longer tour, as the singer’s voice no longer allows it.
Aerosmith is bowing out. In a message published on Instagram on Friday, August 2, the American rock band announced the cancellation of the remainder of its farewell tour as well as its permanent retirement from the stage. A “heartbreaking” decision taken due to a throat injury suffered by Steven Tyler, the singer and leader of the group, which affects his voice.
“As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other,” they wrote. “He worked tirelessly for months to get it back to what it was before his injury.”
“We watched him struggle, despite being supported by the best medical team. Unfortunately, it is clear that a full recovery from this injury is not possible. We have made the heartbreaking, difficult but necessary decision (…) to retire from touring.”
Months of uncertainty
After a five-decade career, Aerosmith embarked on a North American farewell tour on September 2, 2023. It was scheduled to end last February. But after the third show, the band announced the postponement of the September dates due to Steven Tyler’s vocal cord injury, intervened during this final show.
A few weeks later, the band finally announced the postponement of all dates scheduled for 2023, revealing that Steven Tyler’s injury was “more serious than they thought”: in addition to his damaged vocal cords, the singer suffered from a fractured larynx.

“Seeing our music become a part of your lives has been the great honor of ours,” they write today in their latest statement.
“We are grateful beyond words for everyone who was happy to join us one last time (…) Our final thanks goes to you, the best fans on planet Earth.”
Formed in 1970, Aerosmith has entered the pantheon of American rock thanks to a career marked by hits such as Dream On, Walk This Way, Cryin’, Sweet Emotion and I Don’t Want To Miss a A Thing.
