The airline adopted technology developed by IBM and implemented by Xatrix, which helps anticipate the impact of weather events on its operations.

Mexico City, November 7, 2023. – Aeroméxico is using the IBM Environmental Intelligence Suite, a tool to monitor, anticipate, plan and respond to potential impacts of extreme weather events on airline operations, designed to increase safety measures and the efficiency of your operations for the benefit of customers and employees. The technology was implemented by Xatrix, a Mexican consulting company and IBM business partner.

The technology, driven by artificial intelligence, allows the airline to perform climate risk analysis and provide meteorological information and geospatial data for the more than 100 routes it operates in Mexico and around the world. It also issues alerts that allow us to consider current and forecast conditions, such as wind, rain and lightning, among other phenomena, to help improve operational decisions when planning flights.

Adverse weather conditions affecting business are on the rise and, in fact, the 2023 Global Risks Report of the Global Economic Forum suggests that extreme weather events and natural disasters are seen as the second most serious global risk in the coming years.

“The future of business and the environment are deeply connected, and technology is allowing us to gain greater understanding of the climate and how it can impact business,” says Manuel Gonzalez del Yerro, Sustainability Software Leader at IBM Latin America. “For us, Aeroméxico’s confidence in IBM technologies to help the company manage climate risk is a source of pride, placing safety and efficiency measures above all else and anticipating adverse atmospheric events.”

Diego Convalia, Vice President of Technical Flight Operations at Aeromexico, said: “This technology complements the most modern aircraft, like the ones we have, with the experience of our teams and the air traffic control technology and services of the countries where we operate. ”. And he adds: “technology helps us make decisions in takeoffs, landings, flight routes and ground operations, which contributes to elevating flying into an extraordinary experience.”
