2023 seems to be a busy year for the people of Lower Austria Aeons Of Ashes to be. After the EP at the beginning of the year Determination appeared, now comes with me The Wasteland Chronicles the band’s long-awaited second full-length album is in circulation.

With a new singer, who was already able to show what she can do on the aforementioned EP, the band’s playing has also become a bit more diverse and promises great things for the new album.

New fantasy world with old friends

And already at the opener Ascendancy It becomes clear that you don’t get involved in any games here, but rather do the full program right from the start. Post Melodeath paired with various prog elements and a touch of metalcore create a mix that invites you to join in and listen to it again. A Dormant Peril On the other hand, at least at the beginning, you take your foot off the gas before putting pressure on the speakers again after the intro. This time, however, it’s not quite as brutal as the opener, but with very well thought-out grooves and subtle guitar ornaments.

In between there are also short interludes – in this case a total of nine – which are intended to illustrate the whole concept behind the album and the associated self-created fantasy world.

That is something different

So the band plows through the vegetable garden of metal genres for a good 56 minutes, but doesn’t forget the actual direction. This is a melodeath album that doesn’t shy away from experimenting as much as it can. Be it the really great one The Alchemystin which occasional passages occur that would otherwise be classified as Nu Metal or something with a more thrashy touch Walk With Us.

Additionally are also Ring of st0nes as well as f4v5t and Time Is A Lie represented, which one already has from the Determination EP can know. Since the two songs fit perfectly into the album, both musically and conceptually, there’s not really anything to say about it. Finally there is HERE again with the one that was also great The Night The Darkness Died on the twelve.

Conclusion
Aeons Of Ashes deliver with The Wasteland Chronicles a hot contender for Melodeath Album of the Year. Anyone who can get involved with out of the box metal, who definitely doesn’t come off the assembly line, will really enjoy the album. The high level of the EP could be increased again. That’s why there are deserved ones here 9 / 10
