“The best thing was not to unite as an opposition, with these results we were all close to disappearing†: Carlos Saade 2024-02-14 10:04:44

This Friday in the Encuentro interview with Julio Villagrán, the president of COENA, Carlos Saade, assured that the complaints of irregularities that occurred on the day of the presidential and deputy elections have been denounced by the citizens themselves, where the people in charge of the Vote Receiving Boards indicated that there was no system and that the data was being duplicated.

Saade highlighted that as the ARENA party they also denounced the different anomalies throughout the day, and that they subsequently made a report to international organizations regarding what happened on February 4, which allowed the Organization of American States (OAS) to express that different anomalies were observed in the preliminary report presented by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal.

“That the president came out accepting an illegal exit poll, by the way, from a polling house that anyone pays him and gives that data to anyone, that does not make the result valid.â€said the president of COENA.

For Saade, the Court has not been independent throughout this process; on the contrary, it has behaved like a “bludgeon” instead of being an arbitrator in the electoral contest.

Regarding the questions of some people who claim that the opposition should have formed a single front once morest the ruling party, Saade considered that not doing this was the best decision, since at this time the political parties were at risk of disappearing. Furthermore, he assured that although Nayib Bukele presents himself as a person without ideology, he is a left-wing person.

“To be honest when analyzing, it was best not to unite as an opposition, and with these results we were in danger of disappearing. I want to be emphatic, Bukele is from the left, if he was even mayor of the FMLN”he expressed.

In this sense, he reaffirmed that ARENA might not join the FMLN, since both have different ideologies, and that since the leftist party defends dictatorships like Venezuela and Nicaragua, ARENA cannot join them.

Finally, the president of COENA pointed out that the majority of the country’s democratic opposition has the same way of thinking, so they must work to rebuild the democracy that the current Government has destroyed.
