Aegio: “Peace” by Aristophanes for children on Monday, August 26 at “Georgios Pappas”

The “Magic Caravan” theater stage and the “StageTales” production company present the theatrical adaptation of “Peace” by Aristophanes for children.

“Peace” is one of Aristophanes’ comedies written to satirize and criticize the Peloponnesian War. It was first introduced in 421 BC. in the great Dionysia and won the second prize.

A show made to impress young and old alike, with fantastic alternating projection mapping, imaginative choreography, performances and songs that make up a spectacular result!

For the needs of the show, original music has been composed and an “avatar animation” character has been created for the role of Irene, to which Natalia Dragoumi lends her voice.

The purpose of the show created for our little friends is to make them understand, in a light, entertaining and interactive way, that the quality and peace offered by peace in the world is not a given and we must fight for its preservation, as it is the greatest advantage that a man can have in his life!

The premise of the project

The vintner Trygaios, a simple and honest farmer, can no longer bear the calamities of the war, and decides to ascend to the sky on a beetle, which he himself had raised for this purpose. His goal is to take his grievances to Zeus and ask for peace for the good of the Greeks.

Reaching the sky, he learns from Hermes that the gods have moved to its highest point, resentful of the constant hostilities of the rivals. In their place is the god of War, who locked Irene in a cave and is preparing to put all the cities in a mortar to destroy them.

Terrified by these words of war, Trygaios decides that Irene must be freed from the cave at all costs. Just in time, his loyal servants arrive. So all together, and with the help of the god Hermes, manage to move the rock blocking the entrance of the cave and free Irene.

The effort is crowned with success and Peace emerges!

The rest of the comedy is a hymn to peace, a celebration of the liberation of the goddess.

After the triumph and in the general merriment, Aristophanes finds an opportunity to ridicule the warmongers and arms dealers. Aristophanes’ comedy symbolizes man’s desire for the elimination of war and the prevalence of peace. It refers to that vision for which so many struggles have been fought and so much human blood has been shed.
