Aegialia: A disastrous year for producers

Yesterday, the Agricultural Association of Aegialia “Drinias-Bakopoulos”, which requests financial support from the state in order for producers to survive, mentioned the many problems faced by agricultural production due to the lack of water and not only that.

The Association also confirms the recent reports of “P”, which in the previous period had recorded opinions of producers on the problems in the raisin harvest, but also in olives, which due to water scarcity, production is expected to be low.

“This year is disastrous, with reduced production in almost all agricultural products. Subsistence farmers are also faced with open prices or payment delays imposed by traders and processors, with ELGA audit delays not only for the 2024 heatwave, but also for objections to the “Daniel” findings in 2023, due to a lack of staff and agronomists” stated the announcement, which speaks of the State’s responsibilities, among other things.

THE REQUESTS

-Compensation of the olive producers for the damage they have suffered to the olive trees and the olive fruit due to the prolonged drought through ELGA, after a relevant request has been submitted to the ministry.

– Reduction of production costs, with tax-free oil, reduction of the price of electricity, a ceiling of 0.07 euros per kilowatt hour, abolition of the Energy Exchange, the polluter fine and the VAT on means and supplies.

-Remove the stigma with open rates. Minimum guaranteed prices that will correspond to the cost of production, ensuring a subsistence income and affordable prices of products for popular consumption. Replenishment of lost income for our products sold below cost of production.

-Protection from natural disasters, with the implementation of all necessary infrastructure projects.

– Utilization of all water resources (dams, reservoirs, etc.) for cheap, quality water supply and to meet modern crop irrigation needs.

– Change of the regulation of ELGA, so that it insures and compensates the production and the capital at 100% with sufficient state funding. With immediate assessments and compensations within six months of the damage.”

However, the information of “P” states that if the demands of the farmers are not met, then the winter will again have protests by the sector.
