Aegeira: The performance “The Path of Tears” at the Ancient Theater on July 12-13
 – 2024-07-09 23:52:37

The audiovisual show “The Path of Tears”, directed, music, dramaturgy, intertextual composition VioletLouise, comes to the Ancient Theater of Aegira for two unique performances on 12 and 13/07/2024, at 21.15, as part of the 2024 program of the institution Ministry of Culture “All Greece is one culture”.

The show is based on a true historical event. In 1830 the US government ordered the last five civilized Indian tribes living east of the Mississippi to take what they might from their property and move away from their ancestral homes. The Indians’ forced journey inland in winter, which went down in history as the “trail of tears,” was fraught with danger. Many Indians lost their lives on the way to the new homeland. The Trail of Tears is one of the last chapters of the sweeping European invasion of America that led to the annihilation of the culture of its indigenous inhabitants. The dramaturgy will use excerpts from the book “Papalangi” by Erich Schoermann, original text as well as elements from historical sources.
